FYI: A Change in Forum Posting

I just wanted to let you know that I won't be posting tutorials in the blenderartists forum anymore (or at least for a while) due to delays and an inability to post without repeated php errors. I'll probably try to post there every now and then but, I just don't have the time to wrestle with it anymore. Maybe I'll try and post a question about the issue.

Notifications will be posted on CGTalk in the Blender forum.

I just thought I would let you know...

P.S. - Practice and study, there's a big test coming soon! :)

Video: The Power of Blender Screens

Blender's interface offers great flexibility to its users. You can create just about any layout you need to get the job done. However, sometimes it gets tiresome setting up the same layout over and over for commonly performed tasks. You create the layout, do the work, tear it down to get back to where you were before and, sooner or later, you're recreating that same layout again.

Well, Blender's Screens functionality is the cure for Repetitive Layout Creation Syndrome (RLCS).

Video: Pivot Power (Controlling Blender's Scaling and Rotation Pivot)

Blender offers a variety of ways to control the scaling and rotation of objects. This video tutorial will illuminate some of the more create methods that Blender allows via its Scaling & Rotation Pivot Control.

Check it out and give me some feedback! Thanks!

Quick Tip: Add a Subsurf Modifier with One Keystroke

Pressing Ctrl-1 will add a Subsurf modifier with Levels set to 1. Pressing Ctrl-2, 3, or 4 will do the same but, with Levels set to 2, 3, or 4, respectively. This will work in both the Object and Edit modes. However, you can only use this keystroke for one object at a time.

This should save you a few clicks. Happy Blendering!

Lightwave to Blender Keystroke Translator

Here's another little keystroke tool I created to help those more familiar with Lightwave. This tool will help you adjust to the keystroke differences between Lightwave and Blender.

I wouldn't call this a completed tool because, it currently only covers the basic keystrokes of Lightwave's Modeler. Over time, I will update this to include more Modeler keystrokes as well as the Layout and Graph Editor. If you see any errors or glaring omissions, please let me know (include the keystroke, context of usage, and a strong description of its function). This was particularly tough because I don't know Lightwave at all (I downloaded their Discovery Edition) and there were many terminology and function issues to wade through. But, it should be easy to maintain the tool now that I've gotten this far.

Enjoy!

Video: Rendering Solid Wireframes

I've always really liked the solid wireframe renders produced by "other" 3D apps. I didn't think it was possible to do something like that in Blender, until I stumbled upon an old post (by Matt Ebb, aka "broken" - http://mke3.net) at blenderartists.org that provided a great tip.

This video will show you how easy it is to create such renders and also cover some ways to enhance this effect.

Here are some example renders done in Blender:
