News: Systems Upgrade

Hey, I just thought I would let you know that I'm currently in the middle of a system upgrade (finally). My old PC setup was really starting to become a serious bottleneck in my workflow and I just couldn't take it anymore. I didn't buy a whole new system, just a barebones PC. My background as a PC Technician comes in handy during these times because, buying a whole new PC is something I really can't afford right now. But, I can surely buy one piece-by-piece. Once things are back up and running, I should be able to move along with a minimum of fuss and frustration.

I should be back to work on the latest upcoming tutorial some time tomorrow. I've decided that I really like the segmented tutorial format. It allows me to cover much deeper subjects without being distracted by the concern for creating files that are too large. It also allows for more frequent postings.

Anyway, I'm halfway finished formatting the new hard drive. Lots more to do...

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. - I can't wait to see how well Blender runs after the upgrade!

Congratulations!! If u don't mind cud u plz share the PC details...i want to know how robust and powerful ur system has become now.i have P4 1.7 Ghz,128 Mb RAM and it sux. It stands way behind present Systems. I need to upgrade it too.

But the good thing about blender is that it works good on 128 RAM too(if the 3d scene has less details). hehehe.

Other animation softwares like 3ds max and maya take too much memory.Blender rocks! and blender newbies too. :)

The .com is really secondary to creating the tutorials. When I move to it, it will mostly be to get out from under some of the content restrictions of blogger. It's in progress, though.

As far as the PC upgrade goes, I originally had a Pentium III 1GHz with 512MB RAM, a 40GB HD, and a 256 nVidia AGP 4x graphics card.

I upgraded with a barebones system (I cannibalized some parts from older PCs I have) to a Pentium D (dual core) 2.8GHz w/SLI and RAID capability, 512 MB RAM (will upgrade that to 2GB), 80GB HD (will upgrade to 300GB and use the 80 for website backups), a 512MB nVidia PCIe video card, and a Card Reader/Writer. All for less than 400 bucks at a computer show (very good prices) that comes around periodically.

It's not the monster I would like to have but, Blender is screaming on this thing (maybe I won't need that monster). I did some test tutorial recordings and the results were worth every penny spent. Higher framerates with no lagging and audio sync issues during editing. The dual cores really make a huge difference.

Next, I'll invest in a 24" widescreen. Currently, I use two monitors. It will be great to have the one big monitor and use the others for websurfing and utilities.

It's amazing how the prices have come down! You don't need the latest and the greatest to get superb performance.
