Update

Hey there! Yes, BlenderNewbies is still alive. I've been researching the progress of Blender and thinking about how that relates to my tutorials. With a new release being just around the corner, I've decided to change my plans on the tutorials that were in the pipeline. I don't want to do a tutorial on something that might be "old" within a couple of months.

I've also been busy working on the .COM site. I'm planning on going "live" with that sometime in January 2007.

I'm going to be experimenting with some different tutorial formats. I'm thinking about segmenting longer videos. For example, the next Tips series will be several videos, one for each tip. I'm really trying to get the file sizes to a minimum, without sacrificing too much quality. I'm also considering scaling the videos down to 640x480.

I will be doing some HTML-based tutorials as well, combining text-based instructions with very small, embedded video clips to demonstrate some of the steps that may need more clarity. All of this will be compressed into a ZIP file. I will also look into providing this as a PDF file, if I can get the video clips to work from within the PDF.

Give me some feedback on these issues. Thanks!

Kernon, you have some very good skills and it is great that you are taking the time to show us how to be better with our own.

And I like most would love to learn how to have a professional look added to what we do, so we can pass on what we know as well.

Thanks

PDF files would be great. I think you can embed animated GIFs in PDFs, not exactly a video clip, but can serve the same purpose. Use stills from the video and Gimp, I think, to make the Gifs.

Is it possible to indicate where possible the version of software in use, as blender goes through the changes this could be handy to know what version a video refers to.

Re: Blender Version

I agree that will become an issue down the road. I have plans to use a simple database to keep track of the topics covered and as things change in Blender, I'll be able to quickly see which videos need to be updated. My goal is to not have any of the videos become outdated. We'll see...
