Xfrog is providing free sample downloads of 3d trees and plants from its XfrogPlants collection!
You can import them into Blender using the OBJ format.

when tying to import the .objs into blender I always get an error message. is there any trick to get these files into blender?
check the way the name was typed so blender can identify it, or modify it so blender can identify it, but first try left clicking and then right on the object you want to import, to select it the click on the panel selection button to import it
